ATTENTION UPS TEAMSTERS:

Denis Taylor, chief-negotiator for the IBT under General President Hoffa, announced yesterday in a meeting with UPS Local Unions across the country that he intends to implement the UPS National Master Agreement (and presumably all supplements and riders) if the contract is rejected by less than a 2/3rds majority.

Teamsters Local 89 vehemently condemns this flagrant disregard for the will of the 260,000+ UPS Teamsters across the country. In effect, Taylor, Hoffa, and the IBT are declaring, prior to the vote count even taking place, that they do not care about the opinion of the very membership they are sworn to represent.

Should the National Master Agreement be voted down Friday night, and should the IBT choose to disregard the will of their members and implement the contract, it will have disastrous repercussions for the Teamsters union and will be a massive stain on the American Labor Movement as a whole.

Should the membership reject the contract, the IBT can and must resume negotiations in good faith. Anything less is a betrayal of the membership, and a betrayal of the very foundations upon which Organized Labor is built.
