David "Swifty" Swift Passes Away
Jul 21, 2017
Jul 21, 2017 -

It is with great sadness that we must share with you the passing of David Swift, who lost his battle with pancreatic cancer last evening. Swifty, as he was more commonly known, was a member of Teamsters 89 from 1978 to 2008 when he retired.

Swifty worked for various Teamsters shops in the Furniture and Construction trades, even with a brief stint filling in as the Custodian for Local 89, before he became part of the Union staff in 1990 as a Business Agent for the Construction Division. In his time at Local 89 he even served as Santa Claus at our Christmas Dinner on many occasions.

In 1999 Swifty was elected to serve as Recording Secretary for Teamsters Local 89, alongside Fred Zuckerman who was also elected to his first term as President in that race. Swifty would serve as Recording Secretary under President Zuckerman until his retirement.

President Zuckerman, the Officers, Agents, and Staff of Teamsters Local 89 wish to express our heartfelt sympathy to Swifty’s family during this time of mourning. Our hearts break at this loss, as this day we did not just lose a Union Brother, but a friend, a co-worker, and a true warrior for working people.

Swifty’s service will be held on Monday from 2PM-8PM (2PM-3PM for family only), and Tuesday from 9AM-12PM, with the service beginning at 12. Visitation and service will be held at the Schoppenhorst, Underwood, and Brooks Funeral Home in Shepherdsville, KY.
