Teamsters across Kentucky and Southern Indiana have an important decision to make when they go to the polls on November 8th. Although the US Presidential Election is of great importance, we are actually referring to the race for State Representative in your district. It is crucial for every union member to vote all the way down the ballot and make sure they support pro-worker candidates.

Down ballot races are often overlooked in Presidential campaign years, but are in many ways the most important elections on the ballot. In Kentucky, the determining factor on whether we will become a so-called “Right-to-Work” state depends on who controls the Kentucky House of Representatives. Right now anti-worker politicians and their out-of-state, corporate backed allies are pushing hard to take control of our House in order to pass destructive laws like “Right-to-Work”, and to harm working families by repealing Prevailing Wage.

We cannot let this happen. We must vote in favor of Kentucky House candidates who support organized labor, and oppose “Right-to-Work” and the repeal of Prevailing Wage. No matter who you are voting for at the top of the ticket, it is crucial that we keep our union strong by voting for pro-labor candidates for the Kentucky House. In some cases, this may mean voting for a different party further down the ballot than you voted for at the top. Keep in mind, local party affiliation is vastly different than what it is in Washington D.C., and ultimately the only thing that should matter to us as working people is whether or not these Kentucky House candidates will support us and our union.

We must also work hard in Indiana to elect candidates who will begin to turn the tide against the extremely anti-worker laws that have been passed there in recent years. We have a long road to recovery ahead of us, but we must have politicians in office who are willing to help us right the wrongs that have been perpetrated in Indiana through the passage of “Right-to-Work”, the repeal of prevailing wage laws, and many others.

Please remember to vote for pro-worker candidates on November 8th, and together we will keep Kentucky and Indiana union strong!
