YRCW Extension Overwhelmingly Rejected By Membership
Feb 07, 2014

The proposed extension of the YRCW contract was voted down 12,028 to 7,623.  YRC and Holland members in Local 89 rejected the extension 27 to 159.  Members are now awaiting the next move by the Company and the IBT.

During a December meeting at Teamsters Local 89, YRC and Holland members unanimously accepted a motion to reject more proposed concessions and company bailouts.  The Local 89 Executive Board also recommended rejection of the extension. The proposal would have subjected YRCW employees to five years of wage and pension concessions (including wage freezes for many), two-tier wage scales, and the increased use of subcontractors.

YRCW members had accepted concessions in 2008 when employees were asked to bailout the Company after a series of bad decisions by management.  These members remain subject to these 2008 concessions, adding to the frustration evidenced in the sizable rejection of the proposed extension.

Thank you for all those who voted in this important referendum.  You have very loudly made your voice heard by exercising your democratic right to vote.
