On January 9th, 2025 Teamsters Local 89 President Avral Thompson, Secretary-Treasurer Jeff Cooper, Political Director Bill Miller, and Carhaul Business Agent Jason Cooper traveled to Frankfort and met with Governor Andy Beshear, Rocky Adkins, and other members of the Governor’s staff. President Thompson, who also serves as the Carhaul Director for our international union, spoke to the Governor about the sudden and unprecedented situation with Jack Cooper Transport and Ford Motor Company.
President Thompson and the rest of the Local 89 staff stressed the gravity of the situation with the possibility of several hundred layoffs in Louisville, and the very real chance that this could start a domino effect with far reaching ramifications.
We want to express our sincere gratitude to Governor Beshear, who listened intently to our concerns, expressed his support for our union and committed to help to the best of his ability.
Other Carhaul Local Unions across the country are holding similar meetings with their Governors and other local officials to bring awareness to the situation and request whatever support they can offer.
Teamsters Local 89 would also like to express our thanks to the Kentucky State AFL-CIO, who also met with Governor Beshear and echoed our concerns while expressing their support for Local 89 and Teamsters everywhere. We are humbled to see that the entire Kentucky Labor Movement has our backs as we continue working for our Carhaul members.
