Workers at Builders FirstSource in Shelbyville, Kentucky have voted to join Teamsters Local 89, becoming the newest shop added to our ever-growing union family.

Builders FirstSource workers first reached out to Local 89 at the end of July and began working with Organizer Wes Odle to prepare them for the campaign and subsequent vote. Over the last several weeks, management engaged in egregious union busting tactics, many of which were highly illegal, to stop their workers from joining the Teamsters.

Despite the Company’s disgusting behavior, the workers were sustained by an outpouring of Teamsters support, including fellow Builders FirstSource Teamsters from Locals 135 and 174 who reached out via videos and statements that encouraged Shelbyville employees to join our union. Leadership and encouragement were also found within the Shelbyville shop itself, where one of our new members named Brandon Loving played a pivotal role in keeping his co-workers fired up and proved instrumental in their election victory.

Local 89 Business Agent Jim Kincaid has been assigned to represent our new members. Known for his aggressive, no nonsense negotiating style, Kincaid is already eager to get to the bargaining table with Builders FirstSource management to win a strong first contract.
