Teamsters Local 89 is proud to officially announce our endorsement and support for Charles Booker for United States Senate in the 2022 election cycle.
“We are proud to have been the very first union to meet with Charles Booker and offer our endorsement,” said President Fred Zuckerman. “Charles has walked picket lines with our members, and he has stood with us any time he was needed. He has been a strong and outspoken friend to Local 89 and all unions in Kentucky.”
Booker will be running against incumbent Senator Rand Paul, who notoriously attempted to strip pension relief from the American Rescue Plan earlier this year. After failing to remove the Butch Lewis Act, the provision designed to save the Teamsters Central States Pension Fund, Paul ultimately voted no on the bill which ultimately passed with a tie-breaking vote by Vice President Kamala Harris. Had just one more Senator sided with Rand Paul, Teamster pensions would still be on the path to insolvency today.
Charles Booker has long been highly regarded by Local 89 and indeed labor throughout Kentucky and is worthy of any union’s political endorsement. Coupled with Rand Paul’s callous disregard for the plight of Teamsters pension plans and working people in general, it can be ensured that Local 89 will campaign fiercely for union workers to cast their ballots for Charles Booker next fall.
